The NSW Tertiary Student Rugby League is currently the only Saturday open age competition run within the Sydney basin. Featuring teams from Sydney, Newcastle and Bathurst, the Tertiary League is set to become of the geographically largest Rugby League competition in 2009, when the University of Canberra rejoins the league with Macquarie University.
The League currently operates two weekly competitions (First and Second Division), with Nine-a-side and Merit League matches also taking place throughout the year.
In 2009, the League will continue to operate its weekly First and Second Division competitions, with the reintroduction of Third Division being explored (including the possibility with the new recreational rules).
The League is also one of the few completely amateur open age Rugby League competitions in the region.
